At Bedminster dental we keep current with the latest technology and procure the ones which are useful to our patients.
- Digital x-rays: Because film is replaced with a flat sensor, the image is electronically sent directly to a computer instead of being developed in a dark room. This has the advantage of radiographs being digitally compared to previous radiographs in a process called subtraction radiography, enabling changes to be caught much sooner than was previously available. It has the added advantage of requiring about one-tenth the amount of radiation as film does.
- Intraoral Camera: The Intraoral camera magnifies what it see about 25 times. We use it both as a diagnostic and a teaching tool. It also provides a clear view of the sides and backs of teeth. It helps us spot gaps in fillings and small stress cracks in teeth. The camera handpiece is about the size of a dental mirror, but it displays on a television or computer monitor so you can see what we do. This makes you an educated partner in your treatment.
- DIAGNOdent: This is a revolutionary way to diagnose cavities early. When we can do that, it means smaller, less invasive fillings for you. Using a laser diode to inspect your tooth, it quickly identifies the tiniest bit of tooth decay.
- VELscope Cancer Detection System: As a part of your regular check up, we’ll do an examination with the VELscope system for early detection of oral cancer. It emits a safe blue light which causes the soft tissue of your mouth to fluoresce. Your healthy tissues have a distinctive pattern that is interrupted by unhealthy tissue, giving you early warning of small potentially cancerous lesions. Early detection means early treatment, which gives you a better prognosis.
These are just some of the technologies we have available for you. We strive to have the best of everything to help our patients with every aspect of their oral and dental care. If you’re looking for a new dentist, click here to read about our complimentary consultation.
