Do you have a son or daughter about to embark on their senior year?
It’s a huge milestone they have worked hard for… and it’s a moment in time that should be captured and remembered for years to come.
With summer in full swing, you’ve likely started the process of getting a senior session scheduled with a photographer.
If your teen has already had their session, kudos to you for being that much farther ahead!
But if your son or daughter’s session isn’t until late summer or early fall, there are still so many things to think about:
>> How many outfits and what colors?
>> Should hair/make-up be done by a professional stylist?
>> What locations would be best?
>> What props/accessories will best capture their activities (like sports, music. etc)?
If you’re like many people, you may be forgetting about one of the most important accessories – their smile.
Your son or daughter will no doubt want their smile to look as beautiful and authentic as possible. It’s only natural for there to be things about their smile that make them feel self-conscience. Don’t worry, there’s definitely time to address those issues so that they feel comfortable showing their smile off to the world.
Let’s face it… teens love to drink soda and many have even discovered a love for coffee and espresso drinks. They may taste good, but dark liquids stain teeth.
Tackling those stains might be easier than you think with a simple check-up and cleaning. A hygienist can make your son or daughter’s teeth look whiter and brighter with a quick polish.
Is your teen currently wearing traditional braces or recently had them removed? If it’s the latter, they may have some discoloration.
If they have braces now and don’t want them to show at all for the photos there are a couple of options to consider. First, ask your dentist or orthodontist about the possibility of having them temporarily removed. It may be more hassle than it’s worth, but doesn’t hurt to check it out.
Second, with all the options in digital photography these days, talk to your photographer to find of if he or she can “photo shop” your braces out. It will likely cost extra, but could be a good investment and less hassle in the long run. Don’t forget to ask to see sample images of past clients they have done this for to be sure it looks natural.
If there is still staining or discoloring after a cleaning or from braces, teeth whitening can help.
Be sure to talk to your dentist about whether teeth whitening will work for your teen. At Bedminster Family & Cosmetic Dentistry, our whitening procedure is fairly simple. We make an impression of the teeth in order to create a set of custom-made trays and then provide a special professional strength whitening gel that’s placed into the trays and fit snugly on the teeth.
The trays are worn for a minimum of 20 minutes every day — whenever it’s convenient. Most people usually start to see results in just a couple of weeks, but the trays can be worn for as long as it takes to get the desired whiteness.
We’re excited about this wonderful time in your son or daughter’s life and want to help make it as special as possible.
