July 4th is upon us.
What could be better than warm weather, BBQs and family fun?! Fireworks, of course!
Why do we celebrate Independence Day by shooting things into the sky that go boom and are most often followed by a beautiful displays of light?
The story of the first fireworks in America goes way back… all the way to John Adams. It was his vision to see fireworks as part of the celebrations surrounding the signing of the Declaration of Independence and he even wrote about it in a letter to Abigail Adams on July 3, 1776. The first commemorative Independence Day fireworks were set off on July 4, 1777.
New Jersey does not disappoint when it comes to 4th of July celebrations.
A favorite and probably the biggest festival is the Long Branch 4th of July celebration, OceanFest.
People of all ages can enjoy music, food, craftors, vendors, and a bustling boardwalk that rivals Atlantic City in its heyday. It’s an all-day family-friendly festival that brings together the most memorable sights, sounds and sensations of summer.
And that’s just the beginning. For a full list of firework shows running from Cape May to Sandy Hook, check out this website.
