It’s National Children’s Dental Health Month and we are all about taking care of kid’s smiles.
Tooth decay can have devastating consequences for kids and it can affect their health and wellness well beyond the dental chair. Did you know these facts?
>> 1 in 5 U.S. children go without dental care
>> More than 40% of children have dental cavities by the time they reach kindergarten
>> Children with poor oral health are 3 times more likely to miss school as a result of dental pain
Put those nighttime battles with the brush to bed.
Are you tired of dealing with those nightly brushing battles with your kids? Even when it seems like more stress than it’s worth, we encourage you to not give up. Helping kids establish good oral hygiene habits when they are young will go a long way in seeing them through to a healthy smile in adulthood.
It’s time to “Get Smart” about kid’s oral hygiene
These days, it seems that many kids know more about smart phones, Ipads and tablets than most adults. They can be used for all sorts of things… and there are some fun, free apps available for download that will help your kids with their brushing habits
>> Time2Brush (for iPhone only) – An app for kids seven and under that walks them through the “brush cycle” from start to finish.
>> Monster Mouth (for iPhone and Android) – Your kids can play dentist and help monsters with all of their tooth troubles.
>> Brush DJ (for iPhone and Android) – Who doesn’t like a little friendly competition? Kids can use this app to challenge each other on who can get their teeth clean the fastest. You can also set calendar alerts to remind your family when it’s time to change out toothbrushes or schedule dental appointments.
>> Star Teeth (for iPhone) – App that lets kids pick their favorite super hero or princess “brushing buddy” for every day of the week (i.e. holiday figures, princesses, superheroes and more).
>> Colgate Tooth Fairy (for iPhone and Android) – The app works hand-in-hand with Colgate’s website and allows kids (and parents) to enter their email address to get a free “visit” from the Tooth Fairy. They will also find helpful brushing tips, brushing timers and fun games.
Check out these adult apps, too.
>> Dental Expert (for iPhone and Android) – Find out all about different dental procedures, from cosmetic to general to emergency dentistry.
>> iBraces Help (for iPhone) – Learn about orthodontia for you or your kids with how-to videos that teach good home care and also how to troubleshoot problems.
>> ADA Dental Symptom Checker (for iPhone and Android) – Part of the American Dental Association’s “Mouth Healthy” website, this app lets you check your symptoms against a wide range of dental conditions so you can be fully informed as you seek treatment.
How do you get your kids excited about brushing? We want to hear your fun and creative ideas, so tell us in the comments below!
