My dentist wants to switch out all my fillings for these new white ones. It will cost over $3000 to do this, which I really can’t afford. Is there a reason for doing this?
If the fillings are leaking, then this is a good reason to get them replaced with mercury-free white fillings. Leaking fillings will cause bacteria to seep into the tooth and lead to tooth decay.
However, if the fillings are not leaking, then your dentist should not suggest they be replaced. Though there are many more advantages to white fillings, it is still a completely optional procedure if they’re not leaking.
