My porcelain veneers were great, but shortly after my last cleaning they started losing their shine and getting dull. Will teeth whitening bring it back?

Amanda,
I suspect your dental hygienist used some power polishing equipment, such as a prophy jet on your porcelain veneers. She probably didn’t realize that it would damage the surface of your veneers.
Unfortunately, teeth whitening does not work on any type of cosmetic work, whether it be veneers or crowns. It will only work on your natural tooth structure.
There is hope for your veneers though. If you go to an excellent cosmetic dentist, they will have special equipment to allow him to perform meticulous polishing techniques. He’ll need to have diamond-impregnated, ultrafine polishing wheels or pastes. Your average cosmetic dentist won’t be familiar with this, so you really need to do your research and get an expert.
