I really want to whiten my teeth, but I’m worried because I have a dental crown on the tooth to the left of my very front teeth. Will it damage the crown?
Elizabeth E.
Elizabeth,
Teeth whitening will in no way damage your crown just from the normal procedure. It is perfectly safe for your crown. However, you need to be aware that it will not whiten your dental crown either. Teeth whitening only works on natural tooth structure.
That doesn’t mean you can’t get your teeth whitened. You’ll just want to replace your crown afterward. Make sure you do the teeth whitening BEFORE the crown replacement. That way your cosmetic dentist can match your crown to your new bright, white teeth.
I hope this helps you. Be aware there are two types of professional teeth whitening: at home and in office.
In office teeth whitening will get your teeth extremely white in one appointment and you’ll want to wait a week after that is done for the color to settle.
