I like to open bottles and some other things with my teeth. My mother keeps yelling at me over it saying I’m ruining my teeth and she’s not going to pay to have them fixed. Is that true or is that one of those things parents just say to scare you?

I can’t speak for everything parents say, but I can tell you that you’re mother is right in this case. Every time you open something with your teeth, you are damaging them a little further.
The damage could come in the form of a chip, or it could be as serious as a crack. You weaken the tooth each time as well. These forms of damage all require cosmetic dentistry to repair, such as dental bonding or porcelain veneers. Depending on the severity of the crack, you could end up having to completely replace the tooth.
If you’re going to continue with this habit, you might start saving up now for the repairs, especially since your mother has already said she’s not going to help pay for it. Maybe you can start a fund and everytime you open something with your teeth you have to add $10. Depending on how severe your damage ends up being, you may want to drop in $100 every time. Either way, I’d start researching great cosmetic dentists.
