I’ve had my dental crowns for many years, but now I’m getting this dark line at the gumline. Do you know what that is? It is only on the teeth with crowns.
It is because your dental crowns have a metal based. Whenever you have porcelain fused to metal, there are a couple of issues that pop up. The first is that they need to be made more opaque than your natural teeth because the metal foundation needs to be covered. The second problem is the dark line that eventually shows up at the gumline.
There is no real way to get rid of this. Your only option is to get new crowns put on. If you do, I recommend you get all-porcelain crowns. When you do that it solves both the problems we discussed above. They’ll be as translucent as your natural teeth, plus there will never be a dark line at your gumline.
