Can you help me? When I went to this dentist my teeth were in bad shape. I knew that. He said he couldn’t save the teeth and suggested implant supported dentures. I was desperate and would have done about anything. After the surgery, I was in tons of pain. He said that would stop as healing took place. It never did. Then he said I’d feel better after the dentures were placed. That actually made it worse. I haven’t eaten solid food in so long I don’t even remember what it tastes like. And I’ve lost close to 60 pounds. The dentist insists nothing’s wrong, but I can’t continue like this.

Dear Drew,
If you’ve been in pain this long, something is wrong. Your dentist shouldn’t leave you unable to eat. It shows a profound lack of care for not just their patients, but people, in general, to leave you in that condition.
Unfortunately, because they’re behaving this way the only recourse you have is to get a second opinion. Make sure you get a blind second opinion. You don’t want a friendship between the two dentists to interfere with a real diagnosis. Tell whoever you see that you got implant supported dentures, but have been in pain from the beginning and just need a second opinion. Nothing else. If he asks you who did it, tell them you’d rather not say until after he expresses what he thinks of your case.
It’s possible there could be a very simple solution, that hardly requires anything. But, there’s also a possibility your dentist completely botched your case.
What to do if Your Dental Implants Were Bothed
If it turns out the second opinion dentist feels the dental implants were improperly placed, you’ll have to start over. You shouldn’t have too much trouble getting a refund, especially with another dentist backing you up. Most dentists want to appear favorably in the eyes of their peers.
After you get your refund, you’ll have to have bone grafting done in order to have someplace to anchor the new implants. With modern improvements, that’s now just a simple one-day procedure. After healing is completed from the bone grafting, you’re good to go forward with your new dental implants. Just be sure this time you have them done by an experienced, successful implant dentist. It wouldn’t hurt to check their reviews first to make sure patients agree with his or her claims.
Some dentists do free second opinions or complimentary consultations.
