I feel like a complete fool. I had a lunch date and I didn’t want to take out my Invisalign aligners in front of him. It’s only our second date. I took them off in the car. It’s August in Arkansas. You’d think I’d know the heat would be a bad idea and put the aligners in my purse. But no, I leave them in the front seat in perfect destructive range with the sun. I didn’t even think about the heat until I got back and started to put them back in. They fit but felt different. Is this a problem?
Cameron D.
Dear Cameron,
I hope your date went well other than the aligner mishap. Don’t be too hard on yourself. You likely had many other things on your mind at that moment. Anyone could have made the same misjudgment.
Invisalign aligners are quite maleable, which is what makes them so comfortable. It also makes them susceptible to heat. The fact that they felt different when you replaced them means they’re no longer viable for you to wear.
Don’t continue to use them. It will set your treatment back. Invisalign aligners are replaced every two weeks as it’s time to move on to the next stage in your treatment. If you’re close to the end of that two week period, just go ahead and move to the next pair of aligners. If you’re not close, go back to the pair before these if you still have them. Call your dentist and have them make you a new pair.
