I fell the other day and chipped my tooth. It’s not a big chip, but I want it fixed. At my dental appointment, he told me the best way to repair it is with a porcelain crown. Please tell me there is another option. This one seems a little drastic to me. Should I get a second opinion?

You don’t need a second opinion, you need to run away from this dentist as quickly as possible. So, let me get this straight. You’ve got a small chip and your dentist says the solution is to grind the tooth down more and pop a crown over it?? Unbelievable. And, based on your question as to whether there are any other options, I am guessing he didn’t give you any. That is unethical.
Any cosmetic dentist can tell you there is a much simpler fix for a chipped tooth. You could get dental bonding. This can be done in one appointment and will not ground down your teeth. You could also get a porcelain veneer placed, which would last longer than bonding, but it is significantly more expensive so I would weigh my options there.
Run to a different dentist and you’ll have that tooth fixed in no time.
